Parque de la Ereta Trail nature

Mount Benacantil dominates the old town, the port and the sea. The powerful fortifications had given this military zone a state of abandonment. The imposing mass of the mountain remained, a tectonic nature, an icon of the city. The creation of the park represents a recovery of this geographical landmark... ...The slope, the landslides, the south-west orientation and the difficult access had gradually degraded the site: to imagine a garden here seemed an almost absurd challenge. The integration of this natural space into the uses of the city makes it possible to recover the links between the degraded districts and the animation of the city centre and the port, to revitalise the upper parts of the historic centre, to recall the natural link with the castle, facing the sea. This reconquest of the proposed site also offered the possibility of generating pleasant encounters with a familiar, spectacular and magnificent territory (Marc Bigarnet and Frédéric Bonnet, Architects of the Parc de l'Ereta).
